"Mo-Ninian" (My Ninian) of Galloway (c. 350-432)

"...With all eagerness Ninian opened wide the mouth of his soul to receive the word of God. Like a bee which sucks nectar from many different flowers, he formed in his mind honeycombs of wisdom constructed from the arguments he gathered from his various teachers. He stored them in the secret recesses of his heart, preserving them until they had been thoroughly digested, with the result that in later years he could bring forth from his inner person a wisdom that not only nurtured his own soul, but also brought comfort to others. Truly, it was the due reward for one who for the love of truth had been prepared to forsake his native land, wealth and pleasure...When Blessed Ninian died, perfect in life and full of years, he left this world a happy man..." (The Life of St. Ninian, by St. Aelred of Rievaulx)
